
Pavel Palazhchenko

From 1974 to 1979 Mr. Palazhchenko served as interpreter in the United Nations Secretariat in New York. Starting in 1980, Pavel Palazhchenko participated in various arms control negotiations, including MBFR, INF, and START. He took part as interpreter and adviser to Mikhail Gorbachev and Eduard Shevardnadze in all US-Soviet summits and ministerial meetings held during the period 1985-1991. Since 1992, he has worked as a free-lance interpreter at international conferences and for international organizations, including the United Nations and the Council of Europe. Mr. Palazhchenko is the author of “My Years with Gorbachev and Shevardnadze”, published by Penn State Press in 1979, and Profession and Time. Notes by Translator-Diplomat (in Russian, 2021), and has published articles and papers in Russian and international media.
